Becoming Aware
I am always on the lookout to improve our family’s everyday health with regards to the use of less and less chemicals in our daily lives as much as possible. As I became aware (about 5-6 years ago) of all the toxic and harmful chemicals in our everyday cleaning chemicals, I began to clean up our family’s cleaning routine.
I began our family’s overhaul of our “cleaned up cleaning routine”. I got rid of so many things and more articles are coming on what we use for everyday cleaning now, but this article is focusing on car care.
When I used to clean my car using the very popular vinyl protectants and cleaners out there I always did it with the doors open and usually let it air out for a while afterward because the smell was so strong I would get a headache. I wasn’t aware at the time of just how dangerous some of those chemicals are.
The Science
Do you know that inhaling something sends it to our brain? Whether for good or for bad those 2 are interconnected. Our mucous membranes act like a fly trap capturing whatever is sent in there. Then, some can also cross the blood-brain barrier making it toxic to the neurons in our brain, deeply affecting our mental and physical health.
Don’t believe me? That’s OK…just look at different ways that dangerous drugs are “inhaled” and people that die from secondhand smoke. It’s a real thing and the more you do your own investigation and research (something I highly recommend), the more eye-opening it will become.
Inhaling something brings it into our body just as ingesting something does. Learning all of this led me to a point that I wanted to take a step back and reconsider what things we are putting in our family’s everyday pattern that we can reduce or eliminate in our everyday lives.
It doesn’t mean you can eliminate everything that you will inhale throughout everyday of your life obviously as you have to go on living life being in the world, but you can make an impact on your everyday routine in your family and affect your daily lives for the better. That is worth something, right?
Why Make Your Own
In order to simplify daily life, it’s so easy to make your own, not to mention cost effective.
It’s cheaper, easier, and just plain works better as well.
In order for something to be written about or recommended on our site as a simple solution, it has to meet those criteria and more. You can check out our criteria for a simple solution here.
So, let’s get straight to the meat of the article, if you will, the reason you came here.
The Recipe
This recipe for a 2 ingredient DIY non-toxic car vinyl cleaner I discovered, we have been using for 5 or more years with great results.
Disclaimer: I will say to please do a small swipe in a non-conspicuous place first (as always, right?) to be sure it works for you and your car. We have a dark gray/black interior and dash on our vehicle and it works fine and hasn’t lightened anything for us throughout the years. Check yours first with a small swipe just to be sure.

Instructions for Use:
